California was the first State in the Nation to offer Legislative information online, following the passage of Assembly Bill 1624 in 1993. When the first Legislative Information website was built, the decision was made not to attempt to put the entire Legislative Record online.
This site contains legislation from the 1993-1994 Regular Session of the Legislature to the current Session only. Information on older legislation may be obtained by contacting the State Law Library at 916-654-0185.
Legislation dating back to 1850 can be viewed at the Assembly Chief Clerk's archive. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the archived documents.
When you arrive at the Assembly Chief Clerk's archive page, locate the box displaying the word 'Statutes' on the left side of the page. Click on the downward-pointing arrow on the Statutes box. A list of years will be displayed. Select the year that you wish to view. An Adobe Acrobat document will open. Click on the word 'Statutes' listed directly beneath the caption reading 'Section Title.' A copy of the original document listing statutes passed that year will be displayed.
