Legislative Analyst's Office
The Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) provides independent, nonpartisan analysis, research, and advice to the Legislature on fiscal and policy issues. The LAO was established in 1941 to reduce the cost of state government and increase its efficiency through independent oversight and review of the state's programs and financing. The LAO assists Members of the Legislature through its work on the state budget, by responding to ad-hoc requests for research and analysis from the Members, and by publishing independent reports focused on solving problems in state government today.

California Research Bureau
The California Research Bureau (CRB) within the California State Library provides nonpartisan, confidential research to the Governor's Office, members of both houses of the Legislature, and other state constitutional officers.

Senate Office of Research
The Senate Office of Research (SOR) develops public-policy initiatives for the California State Senate.

Capitol Branch, State Library
The State Library is the central reference and research library for state government, Legislature, and the public, offering research and archives.

California State Law Library

California State Archives
The California State Archives collects, catalogs, preserves, and provides access to the State’s most extensive collection of legislative records, and is frequently used by public, state and local government, as well as the Legislature, courts, and legal community.

Sacramento County Law Library
The Sacramento County Public Law Library is a public law library located in Sacramento serving the bench, bar and citizens of Sacramento County.

Law Revision Commission
The California Law Revision Commission is responsible for the continuing substantive review of California statutory and decisional law. The Commission studies the law in order to discover defects and anachronisms and recommends legislation to make needed reforms. In some cases, the Commission's report demonstrates that no new legislation on a particular topic is needed, thus relieving the Legislature of the need to study the topic.

National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws
The organization comprises lawyers, judges, and law professors, appointed by the states and territories, to draft proposals for uniform and model laws on subjects where uniformity is desirable and practicable, and work toward their enactment in legislatures.
